Note from the Author

In this book, I share a few real-life accounts from my time as a chaplain, working alongside other first responders. These stories reveal the often-unseen challenges of providing spiritual and emotional support during times of chaos and grief, where situational awareness is crucial to understanding how best to help.

It is not a manual or a step-by-step guide. It’s a glimpse into the experiences of those who run toward crises, offering help and hope to others. Whether you’re a firefighter, in law enforcement, a pastor, chaplain, dispatcher, or considering a role in chaplaincy, I hope these accounts inspire you to serve in times of need.

Through these stories, my hope is to highlight the unique challenges faced by chaplains and encourage first responders to connect with our shared mission of supporting those in crisis. This book doesn’t offer one-size-fits-all solutions but instead provides ideas and perspectives to consider—whether you’re on the front lines or supporting those who are.

Included is a presentation for reducing teen suicides.

It has been a privilege to serve in this capacity, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share these experiences with you.
